Blood Python; Short-tailed Python

 

DESCRIPTION COLORATION

This python is very robust. It has a somewhat flat head with a narrow snout. It's tail is very short.
Coloration: Main color is reddish. It has black and light brown irregular blotches and banding.

 

SIZE

Max = 9 feet
Ave = 6 feet

 

HOME

Malayan Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo

 

HABITAT

Near forests. In or near water.

 

LIFESTYLE

Nocturnal; Semi-aquatic

 

BREEDING

Python curtus is not easily bred in captivity. It is oviparous and broods its eggs.

 

IN CAPTIVITY

 

This snake is considered difficult to keep. It is an aggressive species and can be unpredictable.
Large vivarium with humid conditions. Large water bowl - big enough for the animal to submerge itself. Provide plenty of hiding spots. Water temperature should be 77 degrees F. Air temperature should be between 86 degrees F during the day and 72 degrees F at night. Food may include mice, rats, chickens.
