- The Five-Lined Skink is fairly common while the Six-Lined Racerunner is rare.
- The Five-Lined Skink has bony plates (osteoderms) underneath its scales.
- The Six-Lined Racerunner frequently flicks its tongue to sense food in a simular fashion to a snake or monitor lizard.
- Female Five-Lined Skinks have blue tails while male have red heads during the breeding season.
